Kyoto National Museum

Die bedeutendste Sammlung japanischer Kunst und Antiquitäten der Stadt — Keramik, Textilien, Kalligrafie sowie buddhistische Skulpturen und Malerei aus über tausend Jahren, untergebracht teils in einem roten Backsteingebäude aus der Meiji-Zeit, teils in einem modernen Flügel.

Generally open 9:30–17:00, with extended hours to 20:00 on Fridays and Saturdays (last entry 30 minutes before close). Closed Mondays, except that when Monday is a national holiday the museum stays open and closes the following Tuesday instead. Standard collection admission is around ¥700; special exhibitions are priced separately.
