Nijo Castle

유네스코 세계문화유산으로 지정된 쇼군의 거성으로, 니노마루고텐(니노마루 궁전)의 복도는 침입자를 조기에 알아채기 위해 일부러 삐걱거리도록 만든 '휘파람새 마루'로 유명하다 — 걸을 때마다 마룻바닥이 새소리처럼 운다. 화려하게 채색된 장지문과 그 주위를 둘러싼 해자와 정원 역시 둘러볼 가치가 충분하다.

Grounds and Ninomaru Palace are open 8:45–17:00, last admission 16:00. The castle is closed on some Tuesdays in January, July, August, and December, plus December 26–January 4. Check the date before planning around it. A combined grounds-and-palace ticket runs roughly ¥1,000; photography isn't permitted inside the palace itself.
